In Praise of Thoughtless Awareness

Some years ago I happened upon these words by Hafiz, a Persian poet, 1320-1388, and I think many of us can relate to this poem called "What Happens?" from "I Heard God Laughing-Renderings of Hafiz" -

"What happens when your soul begins to awaken
Your eyes, and your heart, and the cells of your body
To the great Journey of Love?

First there is wonderful laughter, and probably precious tears.
And a hundred sweet promises, and those heroic vows
no one can ever keep.

But still God is delighted and amused you once tried to
be a saint.

What happens when your soul begins to awake in this world
to the deep need to Love and serve the Friend?

O the Beloved will send you one of his wonderful, wild companions-

Like Hafiz."

(And may I add, like Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath, who is my spiritual guide also.)

So, I'm wondering if anyone feels they were sent "a wonderful, wild companion" at some time in their life...at just the right time, did someone or something (teacher, poem, music, book, friend, etc.) show up when you needed just that...and did your life change in some important way because of this?

I think that I'm always looking or waiting for this to happen. And it has and does happen in small doses. It is one of those great mysteries that is supposed to happen and poof your karma brings you everything you ever wanted and your life instantly falls into place. I don't believe that happens to everyone or can happen to everyone. I think for some it does happen, their karma demands it so. I've seen it happen, a friend is now married to the man of her dreams and is able to raise her children on a sprawling organic farm. Her life fell into place. But that kind of happiness is as rare as organic farmers.

I do think the ancient wisdom that floats around, embeds the minds and hearts of people, and if you seek it out, you will find something that could or might change your life, but I would be careful because while it might change your life at that moment, you might wake up from that dream ten years later and remember you had really wanted to do something else.

Having said that, I think that karma does work in mysterious ways, and the goal and the experience of yoga or spirituality or any wonderful, wild companion should be a completely beneficial relationship. So, while I stay open to meeting that someone or something, the only way I can identify it is if it makes all of my dreams come true. Maybe not instantly, but certainly would never dream of putting a road block in my path.
